NEWS FROM SWEETBRIAR

2009 has started off as another outstanding
alpaca show season.

In February Gini and Jim ventured out of the cold and snowy Cleveland weather to attend the Carolina show. Arriving in North Carolina after a terrible drive through snow and wind we were treated to a balmy 17-degree temperature-but the sun was out. It finally got all the way up to 40 degrees, which seemed warm compared to our never-ending winter at home. At CABO, four of our five entries were first (Bianca, Ebony, Goldie, and Riptide) and three (Bianca, Goldie, and Riptide) won reserve championships. Nice start!!

The first weekend in April Jim took 9 Suris to the Indiana Invitational. Goldie won another reserve championship while Bianca and Riptide were first and reserve champions. But the real excitement came from our rookie 7 month old boys. Full Accoyo Kenai was first in his class of 10 and Twist and Shout was first and champion in the grey male class. Yes that's right. A Grey out of Crown Royale with amazing lock, luster, and density.

We are busy preparing for The Futurity, Buckeye, and AOBA Nationals, which are being held here in Cleveland. See you there!

The 2008 show season was a huge success for Sweetbriar with the Accoyo Crown Royale kids once again leading the way.

The alpaca show season began in Jacksonville, Florida in February where all four of our entries took first and champion in their respective classes. What a great start!

In early April we attended the new Indiana Alpaca Invitational with all 10 of our entries receiving 3rd place or higher. Crown Princess Bianca, Crown Princess Nadia, and Crown Princess Cleopatra battled it out in the white classes with Bianca receiving the Championship and Cleo the Reserve. As you might imagine, all three girls are out of Accoyo Crown Royale.

At The Futurity, Cleo beat Bianca and was the white color champion. Not to be outdone, Sweet Suri Pharon won the brown female Championship.

In early May we went to the Buckeye in Columbus. While Cleo and Pharon repeated as color champions, our black Miss Behavin and dark brown Riptide took the Reserve in their classes.

Next came our three-week road trip out West. It began in Colorado Springs where Jim and Gini met one another and attended college. At the National Alpaca Sweepstakes Bianca, Nadia, and Cleo all won championships while SBS Avett (out of Arizona Sage) won his first Reserve Championship. 6P Accoyo Crown Royale won the grand herdsire competition. What a great time we had at the Sweepstakes.

After spending a week grazing in Ft. Collins, Colorado, we were off for Sandy, Utah and the AOBA National show. Jim didn't tell Gini about the late May snowstorm we would drive through in Wyoming or the tornados that devastated parts of Ft. Collins near the ranch where our alpacas took their vacation. At Nationals, Cleo was once again first with Bianca and Nadia right behind.

The Fall started with the Heartland Classic in Indianapolis where Ebony and Riptide got firsts and Goldie received her first reserve championship.

Onto the Northern Illinois show in October where Bianca got another first and Surius Black (get it-Suri-us) won his first Championship.

The 2008 show season ended for us in Columbus at the very competitive Ohio Alpaca Breeders show. Bianca won again as did Miss Ebony. Riptide was first brown male and champion while Suris was the black male reserve champion. Watch for these two outstanding males as they enter the Sweetbriar Herdsire breeding program in the Spring of 2009.

SBS Accoyo Crown Princess Nikawa

On November 24th, 2008 Nimisha (An Accoyo Jackpot daughter) delivered our second Full Accoyo girl out of Crown Royale.

Niki is very rare, for because of Crown Royale's limited breeding, there are very few full Accoyo CR girls. Like the others, we expect that she will have a great show record. She has all the characteristics Crown Royale is known for — incredible luster, tight twisted locks, great density, wonderful handle and perfect conformation. But she has something special that the others don't have. A small spot of fawn so colored crias could be in her future.

Want a way to win in the show ring with great genetics added in? Better talk to Gini, she just might be willing to sell Niki.

New Cria From Arizona Sage and Accoyo Crown Royale

Arizona is once again confirmed pregnant to Accoyo Crown Royale for an August 2009 cria.

Born in November of 2001, Arizona was destined to be one of the best show animals we had ever raised. Little did we know what would happen. Showing as a Juvenile in October of 2002, she won her first blue ribbon and Fawn Female Championship. Her show career ended at AOBA 2003 a short 7 months after it began. But what a record! She never lost! 7 shows, 7 championships under 6 different SR. Judges, establishing a truly astounding show record.

After winning her last championship at AOBA in June of 2003, Arizona Sage was shorn and bred to our champion Herdsire, Sweet Fox Fire Jax. In June of 2005, Arizona produced another incredible boy out of FoxFire. And like SBS Phoenix, Wile E. Fox has great lock and luster. And on July 7th, 2006 Arizona produced a little boy (22 pounds) out of the Accoyo Crown Royale.

SBS Crown Prince went onto win 12 Championships and was the only 2 time AOBA National Champion. Did we repeat this breeding? You bet!! On August 10, 2008 we welcomed his full brother, SBS Crown Prince Armada. Is he a carbon copy of Prince? We think so. With great locks, luster, and density, he is just beginning his show career. Call us if you are interested in this young boy.

The Accoyo Crown Royale Kids Excel at the Spring Shows

Crown Royale's offspring added several more blues and championships in both halter and fleece shows during the 2008/2009 show seasons, bringing the total Blues to over 120 and Championships over 60. In early 2009, our newest Full Accoyo CR boy, Kenai, won 1st in the white juvenile class at the Indiana Invitational. And our Grey boy, TwistnShout, (that's right a Grey out of CR) won the Championship as a 7 month old at Indiana. The quality that Accoyo crown Royale is producing is unsurpassed.

Meet Our Two Newest Herdsires

SBS Riptide and SBS Surius Black join the ranks of the Herdsires of Sweetbriar after completing very successful show careers.

Both will be shorn in late April and will be available for outside breedings soon. Riptide is co-owned with Ed and Vicki Hinshaw of Sea Ayre Suris and Surius Black is co-owned with Leonard and Maureen Bates of Labrador Acres Suris. Lucky boys, for they will get to spend winters in the South.
